The Voice Inside Rich Cooper's Head

Rich Cooper

Rich Cooper and myself were going up to 4 in the morning waiting on the final outcome of the PS Championship II Taipei 2025 Natural8 Open High Roller.

Two players remained at the featured table of the CTP Asia Poker Arena for the final heads-up battle - Macau's Jeffrey Chan and Taiwan's Chung Tang Lin.

I was doing the live report - writing as usual - and as usual I have to coincide my report with the 30-minute delayed live stream which Rich was commentating on. The reason being is that so that my live report won't provide any spoilers while the livestream plays delayed.

Anyway, Rich was on his own in the commentary booth. Literally alone. Just by himself. Solo.

Usually, there are at least two commentators to shoot the breeze and give comments to have a conversation about what is going on, but Rich was doing this alone for the ENTIRE series - every live stream, every featured table and final table. Just him. ALONE!

Nearing 4 in the morning, I could notice that Rich was slowly fading and tired, and in between breaks - he would go up to me and say, "Nothing yet?"

Since I was watching the livestream outside of the commentary booth and near the actual live table, I had found out who had already won. So my job had to just write one hand - the final hand.

Meanwhile to keep myself entertained, I decided to pop up inside the commentary booth with Rich and keep him awake. In the livestream, he introduces my entry at exactly 4:21:20 on the timestamp. Yeah - 4:21:20. For us potheads, those are magic numbers.

So, like magic, I join the livestream and join Rich in conversation about who I think might win and all the other things. However, there was only one headset that worked and it was wrapped on Rich's head. So, I blabbed my mouth anyway trying to be a cool partner commentator. We talked about hands, why not so many three-bets, caffeine and other things - and it was fun. We had great camaraderie and the conversation was awesome.

The next day when I went to listen back... I had no volume. Zero. Zilch.

You couldn't hear me at all. So from 4:21:20 onwards, it sounds like Rich is talking to voices in his head.

You can watch the livestream of the final table - which is great entertainment. You can see how Yita Choong lost his stack worth about 60% of the chips in play and just crumble.

But if you want a bit of Rich talking to spirits, then fast forward to 4:21:20 and enjoy a different kind of entertainment.

Please bear in mind, it was almost 4 in the morning.

Cheers, Rich! Beef Noodle Soup!
