GOOD GAME IN GODS OF POKER

TEAM THREE: Myself & Adrian Tan

Well, so when I got to the CTP Club Asia Poker Arena in Taipei, the first person I saw my old friend JC Ann Sotelo, from Manila who won the ladies tournament in the first ever tournament she played. She said they went all-in on the first hand. She had pocket 8s against pocket aces. She hit the 8 and that was the end of that and she won the tournament. Only two entries. And she got a trophy.

She was also going to take part in the Influencer Conquest and we still had no idea what was going on. Earlier that day I ran into the Shin Twins from Thailand, who were checking in at the same hotel I was. We came way earlier than the 3PM check-in time, so we got to hang out a bit in the lobby. We also still didn't know what we were playing for, except that we would be playing on the same Influencer Conquest event.

Anyway, once we were all gathered, we found out of course that it was a team event and that we would be drawing our teammate on the spot. The winning team would earn TWD 30,000 worth of GOP credits while the runner-up team would earn TWD 8,000. I believe that would be for each player. Something something.

During the draw, there were 18 cards that made 9 pairs. So we each drew a card and pair up with your partner. My partner was Adrian Tan of Malaysia. We would interchange every level. And we had an extra bullet if our first stack ran out. And if didn't, then we would have to put it in play by Level 5. We had a starting stack of 40,000 which quickly went down to 25,000 (25 bb) by Level 2. I brought it up to 45,000. Adrian kept it at that range of about 50K during Level 3 and then I went short folding a four-bet shoved after I three bet and shoved the 8BB with 6-6 from the cutoff only to be called by my friend JC Ann on the big blind with Aces. For the record, I wasn't the first to lose a bullet. So Adrian had to sub me to finish off Level 4. Then, there was the break.

I came back in Level 5 with around 53,000 brought that up pretty decently to around 90,000 and found a triple up when our queens banked against AQ and AK. Both those teams shoved first and I called with QQ not wanting to miss out on the party. The picture above is us celebrating the huge triple up. I didn't know it then, but when I watched the livestream, we were apparently the chip leaders.

It was a bit confusing because the average stack had changed in a weird way due to the additional stacks that it made it seem we were just a little above the average. It maybe have been true, but what it didn't say is that we were the ONLY one above the average. It doesn't matter anyway, Adrian made use of the big stack I won to extend his range and kinda brought it down again. I brought it up some on the next level but with 4 teams left, I was sitting on the side of caution and timed aggression based on position. When Adrian came, he tried to make a move, shoving all-in with ace-deuce only to go on another three-way against AJ and AK - with AK being the chip leaders (JC Ann and one of the Shin twins). Our double elimination left two teams in the money and eventually - JC Ann and her partner won.
