Hu Hu Tummy Flu Then Off To Jeju

Birthday Bashing

I'm not sure if it really was a tummy flu, but I did celebrate my birthday on Wednesday, September 17 (yes, my actual day) and had a gathering with good friends at Corso Como 88, One Ayala - the boutique store where my art hangs and my limited edition scarves are available.  Thanks again, Millet for hosting!

The celebration was from 6PM until... well, I might it home just before 3AM. There was a lot of food, a lot of drink. Thank goodness, no missing chapters.

Anyway, Thursday (September 18) rolled around and I spent most of it in bed, recovering from a mild hangover. Trust me - I've had worse. So, it was mostly just snuggled in bed - pretending to catch up on Netflix, but I was really napping and not paying attention. Tummy was still ok. I think.

The laziness in me prevented me from ordering a delicious bowl of Ramen from Mendokoro or a yummy Beef Pho from Hidden Vietnam, so I settled for the instant kind. That was maybe around 6PM. By 10 in the evening, there was a pain in my tummy. Some bad acid. Poisoning maybe. The kind of paint hat makes you curl up; that makes you want to go to the bathroom; that makes you want to throw up. However, none of those missions proved successful. I was vomiting air and getting teary eyed and I couldn't keep still enough to finish my business because the cramping was too uncomfortable.

I drank a lot of hot tea. Helpful, but only temporarily. At least, it allowed me to sleep for around 2 hours before it would disturb me again. Then, I would just try to breathe. I couldn't even sleep straight.

By eight in the morning of Friday (September 19), another jolt of tea and the intention of playing the $500K GTD of the APPT Manila Championship Warm Up. I was able to get myself ready enough and felt a bit OK enough to make the 1PM Flight A. However, things weren't looking so good around 11PM and I was just feeling tired. Lack of sleep. And the tummy, it wasn't as bad as the night before, but there wold be occasional stabs of discomfort. OK - so maybe let's take a nap and consider the 5PM Flight B.

I napped well, got in my car at 3PM and before I even made it to 10 minutes from my house, I decided to turn back. There was just no way I could sit through hours of tournament poker in the condition that I was in. Fuck it - go home. Rest.

On Saturday (September 20), I felt good, but poker play wasn't in my mind. The plan was to be playing Day 2, finishing that and then joining my best friend at the San Miguel Okotoberfest at the Crystal Pavillion in Okada Manila. Convenient had I played Day 2. But since I didn't - I still went and we had a relax time from 7PM and home before midnight. Needless to say - I was feeling OK enough to taste the beers on offer during the event. I'll just play the Survivor Knockout (15K Bounty) on Sunday. Back to the original plan.

However, Sunday (September 21) early morning - 3AM maybe - and the tummy started to get bad again. The Oktoberfest beers probably caused a relapse in my tummy and we were prevented once again from any good sleep. By 8AM I already made the decision to not play any event of the APPT Manila Championship Warm Up and just focus on getting better.

Getting better meant going out for drinks with Alan around 5:30ish at Dr. Wine BGC. Alan is an editor/writer who helps out during Asian Poker Tour series. He goes over what we live report and makes edits when necessary. He mentioned prior that he wanted to have a drink with the one who wrote, "he tanked and wondered if giants once roamed the Earth before throwing a chip to call..."

So - that was good. I kept drinking healthy with a Bloody Mary, a fruity Gin Tonic and just two beers. When that ended, I found out that some of my friends were in the area and we ended up having Sangrias at Al Dente. Nothing too crazy. Home by 10:30ish.

Daughter Date

Monday (September 22)- the only thing on my mind - was to finally cure the stomach and buy some legitimate meds - antacid, probiotics - and whatever else needed. Why? Because on the 24th, I fly out to APT Jeju. And we can't be in this condition. So I medicated properly, hot some healthy Shabu-Shabu with my 20-year old daughter at a decent Korean restaurant near home and spent the rest of the day just working on Life of Poker.

It is now Tuesday. I am better and I need to fix last minute stuff before Jeju. I won't say I'm 100%, but I'm prepared. I just hope the travel doesn't get the better of me since it's a long trek to Jeju. There are no direct flights from Manila, so I'll have to hop off Taipei and hop on again to get to Jeju. I want to request for wheelchair assistance.

Anyway, see you in a few, Jeju!
