Ahead. Chop. Out.
Played the Deepstack Turbo for PHP 5,000 during the COD Soul Poker Fest. Starting stack of 30,000 went up to 42,000 on my very first hand.
I entered the table on my big blind, blinds at 200/300 and had an open for 700 with two other callers before me. I had 9h8h and joined along. Flop came 10h Js 4c rainbow. Checked to the opener who fired 1,500 with one caller plus me. Turn came 3h. I check-called a 2,500 bet and two of us remained. River was a Qh. I fired 5,000 and was called. I turned over my straight and flush, and he mucked in disgust.
Still within the first orbit, my set of fours with an ace on the board earned decent, but he couldn't raise. His ace had a two kicker. Max value I suppose as I inched near 50,000.
From under the gun, still in the first orbit just before I would reach my big blind again, I woke up with pocket kings made a min raise to 600 and found 4 callers. The flop of 4h 9d 2s was checked to me and I fired for 1,200 and only one remained. A Kd came on the turn. I checked and he fired 2,500. I gave "the confused look" and called of course. River was a 7h. I led for 3,500, he raised it to 10,000. He had almost 20 still left behind. I shoved all-in. He tanked, then did the hero call thing, flipping over a pair of eights. I showed the nut set and was all of a sudden the chip leader with roughly 67,000 in a span of three hands I played.
The chip lead was taken for me by an older man - let's call him Daddy - who got his chips by calling an all-in on the turn with two pair against a made flush, and then rivering one of his pairs to make a full house. This luck would be a trend.
In a three-way all-in. The short-stack button was in pre flop on the turn. The small blind and big blind Daddy eventually went all-in on the turn with a board that showed Qd Jd 6h Ac. Button showed Ks Kd. Small blind showed two-pair with Qh Jh. Daddy showed As Tc for top pair. River Kc to give Daddy a straight. Boom!
On the next hand, the short stacked small-blind was on the button and shoved his last 8K or so and Daddy called on the small blind. Short stack showed Th Ts and Daddy showed Jh Td. Dominated. Flop came 8c 3c 5c. Turn 7d. River 9s. Daddy made runner-runner straight.
A few levels, a break. And Daddy's stack was the only one that towered over mine and seeing how he played as a calling station- playing almost every hand, like folding wasn't in style - I would've loved to just get from him one time. Hopefully big.
My stack got a little hurt when I five-bet jammed with As Js only to run in to Kd Kh. I still had one of the better stacks at the table, still second to Daddy.
And then, when blinds were 500/1000, Daddy opened for 2,000. I defended my big blind with a three-bet to 8,000 and Daddy called. I had Ah Th. The board came Tc 6h 6s. I led for 10,000. Daddy raised to 25,000 and I moved all-in for what was like 65,000 more. Daddy called and showed Kc Ts.
I was ahead. The turn Td gave us a split pot. Oh well. However, the river was a Kd and just like that I was gone.
Daddy would ITM in 4th. I took it as a sign to stand down and let the lucky move on.
My ITM ratio has slipped to 25% what used to be 30%.
